WhatsApp link and QR code generator

Turn your business number into a link and QR code that open a WhatsApp chat with you in one tap.

How a WhatsApp link works

A WhatsApp link is your number written as a web address: https://wa.me/27717024494. When a customer taps it on their phone, WhatsApp opens a chat with you. On a computer it opens WhatsApp Web or the desktop app.

Add a ready-made message and the link gets ?text= and your words on the end, so the customer only has to press send. Keep it short and clear, such as "Hi, I would like a quote for a geyser installation."

The QR code holds the same link. Print it at least 2 cm wide so older phones can scan it, and test it with your own phone before you print a batch.

WhatsApp link questions

What is a wa.me link?

It is WhatsApp's own click-to-chat link. When someone taps it, WhatsApp opens a chat with your number, even if they have not saved you as a contact. The link is https://wa.me/ followed by your full number in international format.

How do I write a South African number for WhatsApp?

Drop the first 0 and put 27 in front, with no plus sign, spaces or dashes. For example, 071 702 4494 becomes 27717024494. This tool does that for you if you type the number the normal way.

What does the pre-filled message do?

It types a first message into the chat for your customer, such as "Hi, I would like a quote." They can change it before they press send. It is optional.

Does the QR code expire?

No. The QR code holds your wa.me link itself, not a redirect through another service. It keeps working for as long as your number is on WhatsApp.

Where should I use my WhatsApp link?

Anywhere customers already look for you: your website, Facebook and Instagram bio, email signature, quotes and invoices. Print the QR code on business cards, flyers and vehicle signage so people can scan it instead of typing your number.

Is my number sent to Shift Local?

No. The link and QR code are made in your browser. Nothing you type here is sent to us.
